Originally seeded first in qualifying, American world No. 88 Todd Harrity shifted into the main draw of the $10,000 Professional Squash Association (PSA) Las Vegas Open with the late withdrawal of Mexican world No. 93 Arturo Salazar due to injury.
Harrity joins nine-time U.S. Champion Julian Illingworth in the main draw, and will face Irish world No. 81 Arthur Gaskin in their first PSA encounter.
Twenty-three-year-old American Chris Hanson made a last-minute trip to Nevada due to Salazar’s withdrawal occupying one of sixteen qualifying positions Tuesday evening at Life Time Athletic.
English world No. 182 Tom Pashley spoiled Hanson’s journey by defeated the twenty-three-year-old 11-7, 11-9, 8-11, 11-3.
Three qualifying seeds fell in Tuesday’s first round. Peruvian seventeen-year-old Diego Elias eliminated sixth-seeded Jordanian Ahmad Alzabidi 7-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-6.
Stamford, Connecticut-based Indian Supreet Singh upset eighth-seeded Colin Ramasra in the longest match of the round 11-8, 9-11, 11-7, 10-12, 11-3.
The biggest surprise of the round came when Canadian Life Time Athletic professional Victor Berg top-seeded countryman Fred Reid 11-7, 11-2, 11-7.
The qualifying finals begin at 5pm local time.
