The second annual McArthur Center Festival of Squash has ended with Alister Walker and Mike Ferreira & Jonny Smith defeating qualifiers in the finals of both the Professional Squash Association (PSA) ILEX Construction Charlottesville Open and Squash Doubles Association (SDA) Harrow UVA Charlottesville Challenger respectively at Boar’s Head Resort in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Over 230 players contested the five, concurrently-held tournaments: the $25,000 ILEX Construction Professional Squash Association (PSA) Charlottesville Challenger, $15,000 Squash Doubles Association (SDA) Harrow UVA Challenger, an SDA Pro-Am draw, and US Squash-accredited adult and junior tournaments in the eleven-court, 33,000-square-foot facility.

Walker Wins Charlottesville Open

Botswanan world No. 30, Alister Walker, ended Lucas Serme’s phenomenal run in the final of the PSA ILEX Construction Charlottesville Open, defeating the Frenchman 3-1 to take home the PSA International 25 title.

Walker, who dropped only one game en route to the final, was forced to pull out his best squash to get the better of the twenty-two-year-old who had dominated against the number one seed Adrian Grant, number four seed Tom Richards and number six seed Ryan Cuskelly, all on Serme’s way to a second consecutive PSA World Tour final following his triumph in the Rotterdam Open in August.

Yet it was the Frenchman who took an early lead in the encounter, taking the first game 11-6, but Walker, who has been ranked as high as No. 12 on the PSA World Rankings, used his veteran experience to mount an impressive comeback where he took the next three games to complete an 6-11, 11-3, 16-14, 11-6 turnaround victory in eighty-two-minutes.

This victory marks Walker’s tenth career title on the PSA World Tour and his first since winning the Hong Kong Football Club International in May 2013.
